Known for its waterfall hikes

Burgess Falls State Park is known for its sheer bluffs, narrow ridges, rolling water and abundant mixed forest. The park is home to over 300 species of trees, plants and an abundance of wildlife, including the white-faced grey squirrel. Visitors can enjoy the large Native Butterfly Garden, fish and hike the 1.5-mile round-trip loop to see four waterfalls on the Falling Water River, the tallest being 136 feet.

Cummins Falls State Park is an idyllic, but rugged, 211-acre day-use park located nine miles north of Cookeville on the Blackburn Fork State Scenic River on the Eastern Highland Rim. Located in the Cordell Hull Watershed, the area has been a scenic spot and swimming hole for local residents of Jackson and Putnam counties for more than 100 years. Cummins Falls is Tennessee’s eighth largest waterfall in both volume and height. It was also voted the 6th best swimming hole in the nation by Reader’s Choice Magazine.

Rock Island State Park is an 883 acre park located on the headwaters of Center Hill Lake at the confluence of the Caney Fork, Collins and Rocky Rivers. The rugged beauty of the park includes the Caney Fork Gorge below Great Falls Dam. These overlooks are some of the most scenic and significant along the Eastern Highland Rim. The must-sees for any visitor to Rock Island are the two giant waterfalls, the 30-foot Great Falls next to the historic Cotton Mill building and the 80-foot Twin Falls on the other side of the Caney Fork River, both of which will "wow" you from almost any vantage point.

Canoe the Caney

Come paddle the waterfall excursion on Center Hill Lake with Canoe the Caney! Some of the most beautiful trips along the “Upper” Caney Fork River & Center Hill Lake can be found here. Paddlers will enjoy either a 6-mile, 9-mile, or 12-mile round trip along the banks of Center Hill Lake. You can explore beautiful coves, waterfalls, and an abundance of wildlife and nature.

The waterfall excursion on Center Hill Lake is definitely one of the most popular upper Caney excursions (and often, the most difficult to plan)! The water level has to be just right for the canoes and kayaks to be able to paddle to the locations of the waterfalls. April, May, September, and October are the best times for waterfall excursions.

And there is another that begins at Johnson’s Chapel recreation area takes paddlers 6-miles upstream to the beautiful Fancher Falls waterfall on Center Hill Lake. or take the longer trip which allows paddlers to enjoy a 12-mile round trip paddle to the base of the popular Burgess Falls.

"Sam and the team did an excellent job in executing it all, especially since we got exactly what we wanted. Scott Carroll was superb and just a great guy to be with – we told him what we wanted and did not want, and he took us right where we needed to be.  Sam’s contact and kindness with us over the last month answering all our questions, etc. was such a fine displace of customer service."
